Jamaka Organic Farm

The Paradise in the Cederberg

Where you go to find yourself, even when you’re not lost

The Cederberg is really high on my list of getaway destinations. The obvious reason is its location, right next door to the Tankwa.

Jamaka Organic Farm is a great starting point to any Tankwa/Cederberg trip not only because of its perfect location but also for the fantastic amenities and the tranquillity. Did I mention the dogs at reception are super friendly, the staff are pretty great too.

We chose to camp close to the river as it was scorching hot at the time of our visit and the sound of the mountain stream definitely added to the ambience, I also think it helped to create an illusion of lower temperatures. The water is crystal clear and makes a fantastic playground for children. The kids in our group could not stay out of the river.

There is a well-stocked shop on site for the forgotten essentials and a store at reception selling handmade crafts made by the local craftsmen. There are two swimming pools to combat the summer heat.

Jamaka can be reached by a normal sedan when entering the Cederberg from the N7 via the Algeria road. Traveling in the Cederberg by sedan will limit further exploration into the area.

I would recommend a 4×4 or at the very least a 2×4 with high ground clearance. In summer this will be sufficient, the wet Cape winters will however make the roads and rivers a wee bit more challenging.

Jamaka makes the perfect basecamp when tackling the many hiking trails in the area. A visit to the Cederberg Brewery (only 31kms away) would be considered a just reward after a walk in the mountain.

Jamaka Organic Farm is on a working farm but that only adds to the charm. It is a well-run campsite with lots of space and very clean ablution facilities. It should be considered a must-do when visiting the Cederberg and would be well worth an extra day out when visiting the Tankwa.
